A man from Leeds paid £ 1,850 and traveled for ten hours to pick up a piece of wedding cake from Prince Charles’ wedding to Princess Diana.
Gerry Layton won the piece of cake – one of 23 official wedding cakes made for the 1981 wedding – at auction earlier this week.
The cake shows a sugared design of the royal coat of arms in the colors gold, red, blue and silver and has a marzipan base.

Mr Layton took a ten hour tour from Leeds to Kemble Railway Station, Gloucestershire to collect the item from auctioneer Chris Albury.

The auctioneers also gave Mr. Layton a fresh fruit cake that he ate on his long journey home.
Mr Albury, auctioneer at Dominic Winter Auctioneers in Cirencester, said: “I have handled a number of bizarre things over the years as an auctioneer and appraiser – to Belfast to see photos of the Cottingley fairies, to Vienna to see historical photographs of the Cuban Revolution – but this royal cake story will certainly be one of my most unusual and memorable stories there for a very long time. “
