Australian supercars organization Team 18 has released renders showing what their Generation 3 Chevy Camaro ZL1 racing cars might look like when they hit the track early next year.
Team 18, which currently drives the Holden Commodore in the highly competitive series, will stay with General Motors for the next season after the introduction of the new set of rules and swap their well-known pair of Holden Commodore for two Gen3-Spec Chevy Camaro ZL1s.
The team released a rendering of a Gen3 Chevy Camaro ZL1 this week that sports the same Irwin Tools / Fuchs livery that is currently seen on Mark Winterbottom’s No. 18 Holden Commodore. Winterbottom, a serial veteran who has been racing in the Supercars Championship since 2003, will return to the team for the 2022 season.
Team 18 also released a paint job showing Scott Pye’s current DeWalt Tools paint job on the new body of the Chevy Camaro ZL1. Contract negotiations are reportedly ongoing with Pye, and if everything goes according to plan, he will return to the team in 2022.
The Chevy Camaro ZL1 will take on the Ford Mustang in the Australia Supercars organization according to the new Gen3 regulations. General Motors, a mainstay of the Australian racing series, discontinued the Holden brand last year and will therefore no longer market the Holden Commodore in the series.
The Chevy Camaro ZL1 was previously available in Australia through GM’s sales partnership with Holden Special Vehicles, but is now likely sold through the General Motors Special Vehicles brand and its dealer network. GMSV has not yet officially announced the Chevy Camaro ZL1 for Australia, although given that it will compete in Australia’s top tier motorsport series next year, its addition to the GMSV lineup seems inevitable. GMSV is currently selling the Chevy Silverado and the C8 Corvette locally in Australia and New Zealand, with the Chevy Silverado HD eventually also being added to its product range.
