Grieving bride puts on wedding dress at funeral after tragic car accident

A broken-hearted fiancee whose groom was killed in a terrible car accident said goodbye to him for good by wearing the wedding dress she was never allowed to wear to his funeral yesterday.

The devastated Kate Quilligan put on her satin dress to say goodbye to her fiancé Myles “Miley” Harty, who was killed in a horror crash on Saturday just hours before he was due to marry his sweetheart.

Harty, 20, died in an impact when the car he was driving in crashed into a post on a country road at around 1am on Saturday morning.

Yesterday, Ms. Harty, her family, and loved ones buried Myles after a funeral in church where they were supposed to make their marriage vows.

Kate said on a social media post that they are now husband and wife, according to a report by the Irish Mirror.

One video showed a grieving Kate, flanked by her parents, wearing her wedding gown and attire and holding her wedding bouquet in front of a house with a photo of Myles behind her.

Her father said to the camera, “Myles, this is all Kate wanted all of her life, Miley Harty. She’s got dressed and is going inside you one last time. ”Then he says,“ Miley, I’ll never forget you, you’re the boss ”as he leans over to kiss Kate.

Heartbroken Kate admitted that yesterday was “the toughest day of my life”.

She paid tribute to her “brownie” and wrote: “Today is the hardest day of my life, but I know that you are with me every step of the way. I just really hope that you know what I thought of you. “

On Saturday at 3 p.m., hours after Myles died and the couple was about to get married, Kate deflated balloons at St. Munchin’s Church in Limerick, supported by family and friends.

Heartbroken Kate wrote on social media, “I know you take care of me from heaven. Your first night up there baby And besides, you finally made me be your wife.

“From today on we’re husband and wife, that’s what we both wanted,” Kate swore.

Just weeks before his untimely and tragic death, Harty of Askeaton, Limerick, went to Facebook to share a post among his friends – and warned them to drive safely.

Tragically, the young man who is a member of the driving community posted on Facebook on July 22nd saying, “You can replace a car but you can’t replace any of the boys, drive safe guys.”

A teenager who Gardaí believed was driving the car was arrested by Gardaí on suspicion of a criminal offense under the Road Traffic Act.

He has now been released without charge.

A third man, sitting in the back seat of the car, a silver Skoda hatchback, was rushed to Limerick University Hospital with “non-life threatening” injuries by ambulance.

Meanwhile, Rev. Sean O’Longhaigh warned young men about the “danger” and “risks” of driving on our roads, adding that cars are a “deadly weapon”.

Regarding road safety in general, he said to the mourners: “I would like to appeal to our young people, because accidents are avoidable; Cars are a wonderful gift, a great convenience, but they are also a deadly weapon.

“I am sure that many of us would ask here to be aware of the danger to ourselves and others when driving – you are too important to us to lose you.”

Gardai, who is investigating the fatal accident, has requested witnesses and all dash cam footage from vehicles on the R518 Askeaton to Rathkeale road.

Covid-19 restrictions in Ireland limit the number of funerals to 50 people. However, reports found that guidelines were not followed at the funeral yesterday.
