Kate Quiligan said she and Myles Harty, 20, are now husband and wife
A bride-to-be, whose fiancée died in a car accident hours before her wedding, has revealed that she wore her wedding dress to his funeral.
Myles ‘Miley’ Harty, 20, was in the passenger seat of a car that hit a pole on a narrow country road in Limerick, Ireland at around 1am on Saturday.
He died instantly while an unnamed teenager suspected of being the driver was arrested on suspicion of a traffic offense and released without charge.
A third man in the back of the Skoda hatchback suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Myles’ sweetheart, Kate Quilligan, said on a social media post that she wore the dress so that they could say goodbye “one last time” as husband and wife.
“Today is the toughest day of my life, but I know that you are with me every step of the way,” she wrote, according to the Irish Mirror.
‘I just really hope you know what I thought of you.’
A video shows Kate arriving at Myles’ home with a wedding bouquet, while her father says to the camera, “Myles, this is all Kate has wanted all of her life, Miley Harty.
Kate said attending her late fiancé’s funeral was “the hardest day of my life.”
“She’s got dressed and is going inside you one last time. Miley, I’ll never forget you, you’re the boss. ‘
After paying tribute to Myles, the priest who held the funeral at St. Mary’s Church in his hometown of Askeaton asked for caution from other young drivers.
He said, “I want to appeal to our young people because accidents are preventable; Cars are a wonderful gift, a great convenience, but they are also a deadly weapon.
“And so the request that many of us would certainly make here is to be aware of the danger to ourselves and others when driving – you are too important to us to lose you.”
The couple were supposed to get married on Sunday, but Myles lost his life the night before
Dozens of tributes have been left on social media for Myles, who was a popular member of the traveler community.
One comment read: “Every girl waits for this day her whole life.
‘Can you imagine how excited you would be and then everything would be taken away?’
Another said, “I can’t believe it. Rest in peace Miley. God be with you my friend. The nicest boy you could meet.
“Just the day before his wedding. Condolences to his family at this terribly sad time. ‘
Police have opened an investigation into the fatal crash and asked any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to report.
