Memphis, Tennessee – A Tennessee woman spent her wedding night in jail after getting drunk, getting into a fight, and then biting a police officer, according to Memphis police.
MPD said between 20 and 30 people were all drunk and quarreled during a Friday night wedding reception in Avon Acres on Summer Ave.
Police began to break up the fighting, which included bride Miya Pugh, according to a police affidavit.
Police said that after the bride was arrested, Pugh began yelling and walking past police cars towards part of the crowd that had fought.
A Memphis police officer stopped Pugh and tried to speak to her while obscuring her words and told police that according to an affidavit, she was drinking because it was their wedding night.
Police report that Pugh then flipped a switch, went from docile to hostile, and tried to fight the officer who arrested her. Officers then went to arrest Pugh when she started resisting and bit the policeman on the right shoulder, police said on an affidavit.
Pugh is charged with aggravated assault, misconduct, public drunkenness, and opposition to formal detention.
