After 18 months of late and canceled weddings for so many couples in Shropshire and beyond, Lynsey Sayers is excited to open her new bridal boutique, Cici’s Happy Ever After, on Queen Street in Market Drayton.

Lynsey, who works in her day-to-day role as finance director, started the store, which opens on Friday, and has the help of her best friend Carla Taylor, for the past 18 years, to run the store.

The past 18 months have been tough for the wedding industry and for couples looking to tie the knot, so Lynsey and Carla are hoping to bring some joy back into their wedding planning.

“I was always looking for a side business as I am the director of finance every day,” said Lynsey.

“I will run the business from the background while Carla takes over the day-to-day business.

“The store will also do wedding planning, which is very nice for us and for the customers. Having a wedding boutique is of course a nice thing, you are constantly surrounded by beauty.

“But after the last 18 months we also want to have a nice experience for our customers.

“It’s our main drive, to give people who come the kind of experience they may have missed – we want it to be relaxing and fun.

“So many people had to be delayed multiple times and some didn’t even try to start planning a wedding because of the uncertainty.

“Now that things are crossing our fingers and opening up again, we can help them and create a little excitement for them, that’s the way it should be.

“If couples have had to postpone their wedding several times, it really dampens the fun factor. Hopefully we can have that ready for them now.”

The shop is named after Lynsey’s four-year-old daughter Sienna – whom her brother calls “CiCi”.

Lynsey said having a personal connection with the shop is important and having Carla on board as someone she has known for a long time makes the adventure all the more exciting.

Carla added, “I worked in retail for over 30 years and actually retrained to cabin crew before the pandemic, but then Covid struck. Lynsey asked if I would run the shop and I said yes – it’s going to be a new adventure.

“People have had to put or cancel weddings on hold for the past year and a half, so we’re excited to help couples celebrate their big day.”
