Supercars drivers compete against the Australian boxing star Tim Tszyu

The Australian boxer Tim Tszyu put the stars of the supercars through their paces in an intensive training session.

The Tickford Racing duo Cameron Waters and Jack Le Brocq accompanied Anton De Pasquale of the Shell V-Power Racing Team to a boxing session at Tszyu’s gym in Sydney on Tuesday.

The trio underwent intensive strength and conditioning exercises as well as sparring exercises under the direction of 19-time winner Tszyu.

It comes as the Australian professional light middleweight boxer prepares to face Japanese boxer Takeshi Inoue on November 17th.

“They all went very well,” said Tszyu of the drivers’ performance.

“You gassed [tired] but they did well.

“We did three different exercises; One was combination punching that was on the pads.

“The other was body shots working on just digging it in, and then for me it was just power shots.

“I told them to imagine that you had your opponent killing, let’s put it, you have your partner on the cue and you are going for the kills.

“Cam [Waters] had the hardest blows. “

Mildura-based driver Waters regularly uses kickboxing in his own training program and enjoyed the opportunity to train with Tzsyu.

“I had a lot of fun,” said Waters of the training session.

“I do a little boxing and kickboxing, but coming here and doing it with such professional people is a pretty good experience.

“I could definitely tell Tszyu was a pro, he asked me to do things and my mind wants me to do it, but my body couldn’t keep up.

“I had a lot of fun getting in the ring and training with him and these guys and you can tell right away that they are at such a high level, it was a really cool experience.

“I was pretty exhausted pretty quickly, but I hope it will get me fit for the weekend.”

The Repco Supercars Championship 2021 will continue next weekend at the ARMOR ALL Sydney SuperNight.

Tickets for the three upcoming Sydney events are available now.
