A 20-year-old man died hours before his own wedding in a car accident with his grieving fiancée and said the “best” day had become the “worst”.

Myles “Miley” Harty of Askeaton, Co. Limerick, Ireland, died instantly when the car he was in the passenger seat left the street and hit a pole, reports the Irish Mirror.

A teenager who Gardai believed was driving the car was arrested at the scene on suspicion of a traffic law offense following the incident around 1 a.m. in Cragmore.

A third man, who was in the back seat of the silver Skoda hatchback, was rushed from the scene to Limerick University Hospital by ambulance with “non-life threatening” injuries.

Mr. Harty was due to be married on Saturday afternoon at St. Munchin’s Church in Limerick City, but grieving loved ones had to prepare for a funeral instead.

His heartbroken fiancée, Kate Quilligan, was comforted by family and friends. She wrote in a tribute: “I will love you forever”.

“I love you forever. It will always be you and me, no matter what.

“I love you unconditionally, my gentle giant, you don’t deserve this, my lovely little boy.”

The broader traveler community that Mr. Harty was a part of has plunged into deep sadness.

His broad circle of friends and acquaintances tried to come to terms with his sudden death.

Fr Seán Ó’Longaigh, Rev. Askeaton, said Mr. Harty was known in his rural community in western Limerick and said the town was “in shock”.

“It is very sad for the families that they are now switching from a wedding to a funeral. Our thoughts and prayers are, of course, with the family. “

Gardai is investigating the circumstances of the fatal collision with a single vehicle and has requested witnesses and any dashcam footage from other vehicles that were en route R518 Askeaton to Rathkeale at the time of the collision.

A spokesman said: “Gardaí is investigating a fatal collision with a single vehicle that occurred on August 21, 2021 at around 1:00 am on the R518 Askeaton to Rathkeale Road, Co. Limerick.

“A male passenger (20 years old) in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime and taken to Limerick University Hospital for an autopsy, and another male passenger (20 years old) was brought to the UHL for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.”
