The Twitter Sphere, The Daily Mail and even The Sacramento Bee searched everywhere for Gavin Newsom on Monday after the California governor canceled events and lost sight of each other for a few days.
Did he have COVID or a reaction to his recent booster? Nope. Newsom was at Ivy Getty’s wedding at City Hall on Saturday, a guest and two media outlets say.
Getty is a multi-billion dollar oiler and great-granddaughter of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty. House spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi chaired the 500-person wedding under the large rotunda of the closed town hall.
Newsom walked in almost late with first partner Jen Siebel Newsom, “very relaxed, happy to see old friends, shake hands, exchange hugs,” one wedding guest told The Examiner. Then Vogue wrote: “The guests then got into black cars and shuttles that drove to the Getty Mansion in affluent Pacific Heights. The guest said the governor and first partner did not follow the wedding party there.
The media have been feverishly looking for the governor.
“Newsom last held a public event on October 27th when he received a booster vaccination at an Oakland clinic,” The Sacramento Bee reported Monday. The Daily Mail, a British gossip news agency – and one of the best-read news sites in the world – headlined Monday that Newsom “disappeared from public view for 12 DAYS after quoting ‘family commitments'”. On Twitter, many speculated that Newsom either had COVID or was very ill from the side effects of the booster.
The wedding guest, who did not want to be named, said the governor looked healthy and showed no signs of illness. He and the first partner sat next to the Mayor of San Francisco London Breed at the 500-person wedding, the guest said.
Newsom received media backlash a year ago over a birthday party he attended at Yountville’s chic French Laundry Restaurant while COVID-19 restrictions were still in place.
