Tennis star Sir Andy Murray turned to Instagram followers for help after his tennis shoes with his wedding ring under his car were stolen.
He said he left his shoes outside his Indian Wells, California hotel because they were “sweaty” and “smelly” and he didn’t want to “vacuum the room.”
But in an unfortunate mishap, he forgot that his wedding ring was still on his shoelaces.
The 34-year-old revealed that he always ties the ring to his shoes when playing because he cannot play with it by the hand – “in retrospect, that seems like a terrible idea”.
In a video posted on Instagram, he said he was now at home in “the bad books” and appealed to his followers for help.
“If anyone can share this or have any idea where they are it would be very helpful so I can try to get it back and get to the bottom of it, it would be very grateful,” he said.
Sir Andy, who has been married to Kim Sears since 2015, is preparing to play the Masters tournament in Indian Wells for the first time since 2017.
On the Instagram video, he said, “Last night after dinner in Indian Wells, I got back in the car to return to the hotel and the car didn’t smell good.
“Basically I left my tennis shoes in there. It was 38 degrees … 39 degrees, so my tennis shoes were pretty damp, sweaty and yes, basically smelly. “
Since there was no balcony in his hotel room, he decided to leave her outside under his car overnight “to get some air”. But when he came back that morning, “the shoes were gone,” he said.

That meant he had to buy a new pair of different brands of shoes to wear to the tournament, which he felt was “not ideal”.
He only realized he was missing his wedding ring when his physiotherapist asked him where he was while preparing for training.
In the post’s caption, which has nearly 2,000 comments so far, he wrote, “Yeah, I know I’m an idiot and in hindsight it seems like a terrible idea, but I need some help.
“What should the reward be when you get it back?”
