Convention rally in Ludhiana: Forced to walk to the venue, wedding guests see red

Dressed nine and decked out in their finest wedding insignia, hundreds of guests walking into the wedding halls across from the Congress rally on Monday had to park their cars some distance away and walk to the venue.

Three wedding halls are located on Gill Road near the grain market, where Prime Minister Charanjit Singh Channi spoke to the growing crowd. Political followers such as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Harish Chaudhary in charge of the Punjab Congress, Cabinet Ministers Manpreet Singh Badal and Bharat Bhushan Ashu, and MPs Amar Singh, Ravneet Singh Bittu and Mohammad Sadiq attended the rally was organized in the constituency of Atam Nagar by Congress Leader Kamaljit Singh Karwal.

Heavy traffic jams have been observed near the rally site and due to the safety bubble around the venue. The guests were stopped at barricades and allowed to enter after being checked by the police. Only the vehicles of the grooms and brides were allowed to enter the wedding halls even after thorough checks by the police.

The brother of one of the grooms said: “We would never have booked the venue if we had known about the rally. We are embarrassed to see guests come to the wedding after walking a long distance in heels, lehenga, saris and robes. In addition, it is not safe for women to walk long distances and wear expensive jewelry. ”

Although there was valet parking, many had to park their cars themselves. Rishabh Arora, a guest, said the baratis couldn’t even dance outside of the venues due to heavy police activity.

High drama at the venue

A major drama was seen at the venue after a small scuffle broke out between the police and the congressional councilors, including Ward 3 city councilor Vipan Vinayak, because the latter was denied entry from the main pandal site, after which the workers called on Captain Sandeep Sandhu to intervene.

The woman who made rape allegations against LIP chief Simarjit Singh Bains also held a hoarding outside the venue. She accused Congress of sheltering Bain and requested his arrest. She claimed the police prevented her from entering the venue.
