“It literally landed on our car!”: Couple reveals horror when single-engine plane cuts off dozens of cars when it makes an emergency landing on Interstate 5 north of San Diego

A couple unveiled the horrific moment when a single-engine airplane held its car off while making an emergency landing on a freeway north of San Diego.
The single-engine Piper PA-32 experienced mechanical problems after taking off from Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport and attempted to land in a nearby field, but crashed shortly after noon in the southern lanes of Interstate 5, authorities said.
It capped several cars and partially came to rest on the middle divider.
Austin, Texas, Dane and Sarah Tribett were in town to celebrate their eighth wedding anniversary when their Kia sedan was struck by the plane despite being seriously injured.

“Glass is shattered everywhere. Suddenly we only see the plane in front of us, ”Sarah Tribett told KSWB-TV. ‘We were afraid for our sanity.’
“The people behind us drove past us and let us know that it literally landed on our car.
“There’s jet fuel everywhere in our back seat. All of my clothes are soaked and there is only glass everywhere. ‘
The California Highway Patrol said two people in the cars were being rushed to hospital for treatment for minor injuries, including minor cuts from broken glass.

They added that the two people on board the plane appeared to be unharmed.
Part of the aircraft’s right wing broke off and got stuck in the rear of an Audi SUV.
The motorway was closed for more than four hours until a small gas leak was removed and the plane was taken away.
At 4:30 p.m. local time, NBC San Diego reported that the plane was being lifted by a crane onto a flatbed truck to be removed from the freeway.
