Crowds gathering of teenagers invade the parking lot on Newport Road in Cardiff with cars spinning up and down the street

A large gathering of more than 100 people took over a city parking lot on Sunday evening.

About 60-70 cars appeared to be gathered near PC World in Cardiff’s Newport Road Retail Park, revving their engines and driving up and down Newport Road.

One woman, who did not want to be named, said, “I just drove by. There were well over 100 children there. It was pretty scary, to be honest.”

It comes after scenes of “enmity” last month when Cardiff police faced a crowd of hundreds. You can read about it here.

Another witness at the scene said it felt like a “gloomy atmosphere”.

They added, “More than 100 young people have gathered in the PC World and Tops Tiles parking lot on Newport Road.

“What looks like a car meet-up, I’ve seen about 60 cars, many of which have been converted, parked in the entire lot and across the street. Young people between the ages of 16 and 25 gathered around the main street into Cardiff across the busy street at six Roadways.

“Some of the cars seem to be pulling up and down the street. Several police cars have passed but haven’t stopped.”

The South Wales Police have been asked for a comment.
