A newly married man was taken away by police during his wedding while his outraged bride chased the police car down the street.

The man, who was not named by the force, was arrested at the worst possible moment on child support charges he allegedly owed another woman.

The couple were about to say “yes” before the incident in El Guabo, in Ecuador’s southernmost coastal province of El Oro.

A video of a sharply timed dive has already been widely shared online.

Footage shows the groom being led away from the wedding venue by police officers who put him in their vehicle and drove away.

People on the internet had a lot of sympathy for the bride – but not so much for the groom

The wedding guests appear angry and confused, and his girlfriend tries to follow the police car as it drives down the street.

She then reportedly got into another vehicle to follow them.

The groom-to-be reportedly owed child support for several months to another woman from a previous relationship, with whom he is said to have multiple children.

The footage was captured by one of their wedding guests.

The bride-to-be can be heard yelling and yelling at the cops not to take her fiancé away, but they don’t listen and arrest the groom anyway.

The groom was reportedly taken to a police station and asked to give a statement when questioned about his refusal to shoulder his responsibilities.

It is currently unclear whether the groom was released from police custody and whether he was able to marry his bride.

The footage left many divided.

One wrote on Twitter: “Why not wait until after this poor woman.”

But after that it’s his own fault.

A second person said: “Right you have money for a wedding not your kids hmmmm.”
