Hiccups and getting stuck are inevitable on a wedding day, but Shenice Beirne of Gloucester, England didn’t expect to spend part of her big day hitchhiking to her ceremony.
ITV reported that her chauffeured car broke down 25 minutes from church and the bride was already 20 minutes late.
Beirne wrote on Facebook that she had borrowed the chauffeur’s phone to call various taxi companies, but received no help. She took matters into her own hands and started hitchhiking.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Beirne told Newsweek. “I thought, ‘This won’t happen’, but at the same time I thought it was funny.”
It took some time before she could successfully stop a car. Although one person stopped to see if the bride was okay, he told Beirne that there was no space in his van.
In order not to be discouraged, Beirne kept trying to report someone in the hope of making it to their wedding.

“My sister and I stood in the street in my big white dress waving cars down,” she wrote. “After about 15 minutes … yes, 15 full minutes of cars and cars passing someone who was obviously on their way to their wedding, someone finally stopped to see if we were okay and offered us to take us to church. “
Beirne explained that the Good Samaritans went on a trip in the area and said they were their “guardian angels”.
“We were so relieved when someone finally stopped and couldn’t thank them enough,” said Beirne. “When we got to church, I still couldn’t believe what had happened, but I had to get ready quickly because we were over an hour late.”
She enjoyed the rest of the day, but initially wasn’t given the names of the two people who had saved the day. After posting their experience on Facebook, other users shared the post more than 400 times in hopes of reaching the two who had helped the bride.
The post reached the two of them, Matt and Michelle Moore, and Michelle commented under the photos.
“No problems,” wrote Michelle. “It has been a pleasure helping you on your big day! I hope you had a fabulous day and life together as husband and wife.”
Despite a bumpy start, it remained a special day for Beirne.
“When I look back now, it’s such a funny story to tell and I still can’t believe it happened to me, but I wouldn’t change anything,” Beirne told Newsweek. “I had the greatest day.”
