Former fintech entrepreneur Justin Lunny wants to keep old sports cars on the road for as long as possible. Lunny’s passion for cars led him to swap gas for electricity with the new company Everrati.
Everrati’s model consists of taking a classic, popular model and trading in an electric drivetrain. Legislation around the world is changing to make internal combustion engines obsolete, but Lunny doesn’t want the huge variety of awesome classics out there to die. Similar to the British company Lunaz Design, Everrati will bring your classic to new life. The company is currently working on Porsche 911s from ’89 to ’93 (called the “964” generation), but expansion is on the way.
But why bother incorporating new technology into old cars? Lunny’s daughter was a big nudger.

“My daughter was seven,” Lunny told Insider. “She used to come home, go to bed, wake up screaming, worry about the world’s floods and climate change. A teacher had told her these things were happening. And that’s pretty scary. ”
Lunny’s second big kick was a royal wedding. He saw Jaguar’s E-Type Zero EV at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ceremony and realized that these are the kind of cars he should be developing, but what Lunny saw in EV retrofitting when he founded Everrati was a bit unsettling.
“There were people out there, let’s face it, ripping apart Nissan Leafs and trying to fit it into whatever,” Lunny said. “Things like used batteries are a real no-go for us.”

With engineering, Everrati is not a seedy backyard business. The team consists of the likes of McLaren, Jaguar Land Rover and others. Every car is extensively tested and set up before anyone outside the company sees it.
Everrati’s Porsche 911 comes with a more proven setup that will make a certain group of EV fans very happy: a Tesla powertrain with nickel battery cells. To make sure it stays as it should, there is a differential from Quaife, a British automotive supplier that specializes in high-performance and racing car parts.
Some may find its 150 mile range a little on the low side, but Everrati views its development as a car to be driven for fun rather than a long distance touring bike, so range shouldn’t be an issue. More range means more batteries, and that’s not good for Everrati’s goals.

“We’d prefer the car to feel the way it should be than to create another 80 kilometers of range,” said Lunny, referring to the highly praised driving characteristics of the Porsche 911 – with an engine in the rear, its handling is clear unlike conventional cars that Porsche purists love. “We don’t want to outweigh it.”
Where others, like Lunaz Design, beautifully restore classics from back then, Everrati’s beat is more modern. Bedroom wall poster cars for people of all ages.
Lunny knows that what is iconic to him – a 964-generation Porsche 911 – may not apply to anyone else. That doesn’t mean his company can’t electrify another’s notion of an icon.

“We have customers who say, ‘Could you take a look at my Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster? Could you take a look at my Aston Martin DB4? ‘”Lunny said. “Our approach is that we do bespoke work for particularly wealthy, wealthy car owners.
“And of course, once you’ve made a DB4, we can make it as a series. So you’re helping us in a way.”
As battery technology advances, Everrati can upgrade its components. Or if you want to remove a gas engine, the conversion is completely reversible – although Lunny said Everrati can turn your Porsche’s old engine into a coffee table if you want.
