Once again we return to one of America’s favorite pastimes: marveling at the weddings of extremely wealthy women. Ivy Love Getty, the great-granddaughter of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, got married this weekend in San Francisco, where she and her new husband Tobias Engel put on a three-day spectacle with a ’60s-style disco party, dog-ring bearers and, from 16, haute- Couture dresses. Billionaires Oil Heirs – They Are Just Like Us! Except not at all. Vogue covered the wedding at length, of course, and it was definitely glamorous.

The whole affair started with a “British Invasion” pre-wedding party at the Palace of Fine Arts under the motto “British Invasion”, where everyone had to put their cell phones in the sealed pouches that the controversial stand-up comedians for Use shows. Who was responsible for the music that nobody was allowed to record, you ask? Mark Ronson and also Earth, Wind, and Fire who stopped by for a live performance sometime during the night. The next morning, this couple hosted an infusion picnic for their presumably hungover guests before the wedding reception.

When the actual wedding day began, the 14 bridesmaids got together for a slumber party – with personalized Morgan Lane PJ sets, of course – and then put on their couture dresses from Maison Martin Margiela by Galliano. Galliano, who also did the hair and makeup styling for the bridal shower, made a dress for Ivy that was covered in broken mirror shards and a veil embroidered with walnuts and guitars last year. The main event took place in the town hall (modest), which Getty’s event planner had covered with blue-green and fuchsia-colored Persian rugs. Finally, black cars took all guests to Ivy’s grandparents’ famous mansion, which is home to a small fine arts museum.

Oh, the guests! Yes, let’s talk about them. A real Mad Libs-y collection of celebrities, politicians and European royalty was in attendance at this event. The maid of honor was Anya Taylor-Joy, whom Getty apparently met six years ago on her first day in LA. The ceremony was presided over by … Nancy Pelosi? Also present: California Governor Gavin Newsom, Vogue Editor Hamish Bowles, Olivia Rodrigo and Princess Olympia of Greece and Denmark. I understand Rodrigo is now technically a skilled politician, but I still find this mix fascinating and completely confusing. The most notable guest of all, however, was Ivy’s Rescue Chihuahua Blue, who was the ring bearer.

Where, you wonder, did Ivy and her robust team of event planners get the inspiration for all of these celebrations? Certainly not online. The bride says the wedding theme was the Getty Mansion and her grandmother, who designed every room in the house inside (presumably working around the Degas and Matisses). Unlike the mason jar and string light obsessed masses, “I never had to turn to Pinterest for inspiration,” she told Vogue.
