Kanye West hosted another stadium event for DONDA on Thursday night (US time) and it was A LOT.
After two stadium events in Atlanta, West debuted another version of DONDA at a third event held in his hometown of Chicago at Soldier Field.
The personal audience and viewers of the Apple Music livestream were greeted with a replica of West’s childhood home in the center of the arena. The house was surrounded by a cavalcade of black cars and people in ‘DONDA’ body armor at the beginning of the show.
Ye came out the front door with Marilyn Manson and a hooded DaBaby. Some “interesting” company to keep, to say the least.

DaBaby was recently banned from several festivals for making homophobic remarks on stage at the Rolling Loud festival in July. After violent backlash from artists, events and an open letter from GLAAD (the gay and lesbian alliance against defamation), the 29-year-old apologized on Instagram to later delete the post.

A new feature verse from DaBaby replaced a previously shared Jay-Z feature played at the two previous events. Understandably, the move provoked a lot of violent reactions.

Marilyn Manson is currently charged with multiple sexual assault charges. The 52-year-old shock rocker has denied all allegations first sparked by his ex-girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood.
The event also kicked off the theatrics. Especially towards the end of the event, footage of West setting herself on fire in the house was projected onto the arena before West left the house – literally on fire. When the lights were dimmed, ex-wife Kim Kardashian appeared in a bridal veil and approached Yeezy while “No Child Left Behind” played over the speakers.
It was a lot to grasp and with very little context. Are you married again now, or was that just a dramatic effect !?

The Chicago version of DONDA West had a rearranged tracklist and other music tweaks and reworks, including a previously unheard track sampling by Lauryn Hill. But some tracks that were heard in Atlanta have also been cut or removed, including performances by Kid Cudi and samples from West’s late mother, Donda West, after whom the album is named.
Our opinion? DONDA 3.0 didn’t sound as good as the last version, and the unexplained presence of two very canceled artists really scrubbed the luster of the experience that never really recovered. The feeling of cathartic intimacy of the events in Atlanta has been replaced with a slightly sloppy spectacle.
There is still no official word about when DONDA – which follows the evangelical Jesus Is King of 2019 – will be published. It is slated to be released on July 23rd and then August 6th, but those dates have come and gone without publication has a release date of September 3rd.
Earlier this week, Kanye launched a DONDA Stem Player – an AU $ 275 device that allows users to “customize any song” – which is said to come with the new album.
Here’s another thought: what if we don’t need DONDA to exist outside of these glasses? Follow us through this logic in a comment posted below earlier this week.
“In many ways, we’ve already seen the best version of what any official album release has to offer.”
