Mumbai, August 14th (IANS): The extended family of Anil and Sunita Kapoor showed up in their best outfits for the inconspicuous wedding of their daughter, the film producer Rhea Kapoor, sister of Sonam and Harshvardhan Kapoor, with her long-time friend Karan Boolani.
Although the Kapoors did not officially announce this milestone event in their family, the activity outside their home in Juhu on Saturday, particularly the steady arrivals in glittering cars, confirmed the social media chatter about the marriage. Saturday was apparently the last auspicious day for weddings before the start of the lunar month of Bhadra on August 23rd.
The newlyweds were seen in a car late in the evening after their wedding. They were simply dressed and the wedding is said to have been a simple, “spiritual” affair. In contrast to a Punjabi wedding, it was not preceded by any nights dedicated to “Mehndi” and “Sangeet”. Rhea didn’t have a “mehndi” on her hands, but she wore a flashy engagement ring.
The paparazzi had been gathering in front of the Kapoor’s house in Mumbai since that morning, and when they clicked away, the bride’s father stepped out earlier that evening, wearing a midnight blue kurta and dhoti, smiling broadly and posing with folded hands for pictures, with boxes with them Sweets that he distributed to the photographers and television cameramen.
“It’s a happy occasion and I’m sharing this lucky box with all of you,” he said, turning to the photographers. “Just as you sent good wishes and blessings to my older daughter Sonam, bless my Rhea too. Thanks for your support.”
The arrival of Sonam Kapoor, who looked beautiful in a shimmering light blue outfit, along with her shoe designer husband Anand Ahuja, who looked chic in Jodhpurs, got the paparazzi excited.
Others spotted entering the Kapoor’s Juhu residence were Rhea’s grandmother Nirmal Kapoor, her uncles Boney and Sanjeev (who came with his wife Maheep, who was most recently featured in “Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives,” and son Jahaan ) and her aunt Reena Marwah with her husband Sandeep.
The bride’s cousins were there with all their might to increase the glam quotient. These included a trimmer Arjun Kapoor (who looked visibly different after his fitness routine with kickboxing champion Drew Neal), Anshula, Shanaya and Khushi. Mohit Marwah, the actor son of Reena and Sandeep Marwah, and fashion designers Masaba Gupta and Kunal Rawal were also spotted.
Rhea, the younger daughter of Anil Kapoor and his costume designer Sunita, is known for producing films such as “Aisha”, “Khoobsurat” and “Veere Di Wedding”. On Saturday it was time for “Rhea Di Wedding”.
Karan Boolani worked with Anil Kapoor’s production company and most recently co-directed the Netflix series “Selection Day” based on the novel by Aravind Adiga.
In parallel with the news of the marriage breakout, more and more pictures of Karan and Rhea can be seen on social media.
In her last post on her official Instagram handle, Rhea wrote, “I really believe the secret to being loved is to love. The secret to being interesting is to be interested. And the secret to having a friend is to be a friend. “
