Sydney Motorsport Park was supposed to host the series for a night race from August 20th to 22nd, but this was long considered unlikely due to an outbreak of the Delta Tribe in Sydney.
The city is currently on lockdown and will be on lockdown at least until the end of this month, with health experts predicting it could take longer before the outbreak can be brought under control.
Supercars has now officially postponed the event to a later point in the season.
“Supercars advises that the Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight scheduled for August 20-22 will be postponed to a later date in the year,” said a statement from Supercars.
“Due to the current and evolving COVID-19 restrictions, Supercars has determined that a later date will provide a safe and preferred event experience for Supercars teams, spectators and officials.
“All other events that are planned in the calendar of the Supercars Championship 2021 will be carried out as planned.
“Tickets bought for the event remain valid for the new game dates, which will be announced shortly.”
The gap in the calendar left by the Sydney SuperNight may make way for the postponed Winton event, although that too has a COVID-related complication as Melbourne faces a potential outbreak emanating from Sydney.
Bend Motorsport Park has also been marked as a flexible option, but even this venue has not been untouched by the pandemic as it is on a list of exposure locations today.
Everyone who was at the gas station between 7:20 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. on Friday, July 9th, is asked to be immediately quarantined for 14 days.
The gas station is located at the main gate of the circuit on the Dukes Highway, making it a popular stop for travelers heading east on the Adelaide road.
Supercars continues with the rest of its calendar, with the next round scheduled for the Perth SuperNight from September 11th to 12th, followed by the Bathurst 1000 on October 10th, the Auckland SuperSprint in Pukekohe from November 6th to 7th and the Gold Coast 500 Season Finale on the streets of Queensland December 4-5.
This despite concerns that the tough border postures in Western Australia and New Zealand could make it difficult to conduct the rounds in Perth and Auckland.
