The bride arrives in the police car after a breakdown drama for the Cheshire wedding

A dramatic mishap en route to a Cheshire wedding resulted in a bride arriving in a police car.

Lydia Evans-Hughes had postponed her wedding twice due to the pandemic and was finally traveling to St. Mary’s Church in Cheshire after a long wait when the classic car stuttered to a stop.

The 29-year-old was out and about with her father, Alan Fletcher, who works as a mechanic, and managed to come to a standstill just 200 meters further down the street.

Lydia, her father and mother, Yvette, were trying to figure out how to get the dress over the barrier next to the A55 when an unmarked police car pulled up.

The officer then kindly offered them a lift to help them get to the wedding on time.

Lydia didn’t keep her 31-year-old husband Tidur long on August 27 and made a grand entrance when Inspector Matt Geddes announced her arrival with his sirens and flashing lights.

Lydia, a Bridgnorth civil servant who was moving to Wrexham to live with her current husband, said, “We were supposed to have a bridal car and two bridesmaid cars, but one of the drivers tested positive for Covid on the morning of the wedding we were down a car and then ours didn’t make it either.

“The car just started rolling and turning off, it happened a couple of times, but my dad is a mechanic and he jumped in the front and let it go a few hundred meters or so but he started it up and said something not true “with that and said we had to call it a day.

“We were sitting in the car discussing whether I should climb over the barrier in my dress, and within a few minutes an unmarked police car pulled up.

“He then saw that we were in the car and said you’d like a lift, which was an immediate relief. We couldn’t have ordered a taxi that quickly.

“It sounds a lot more dramatic than it was, you see things differently when it’s your wedding day, it was pretty funny back then.

“The poor lady who drove us was absolutely humiliated.

“We were a little late anyway, but Tid didn’t have to wait long.

“Inspector Geddes said, ‘How big would you like to make an appearance?’ And my father said ‘big’ so he turned on the lights and the sirens.

“The rest of the day went like a dream, especially after Covid. It added a bit of drama and excitement and is something to tell the grandchildren. “
