When it comes to the drag strip, there are many self-proclaimed champions. dodges, Chevrolet, and Ford have been duking it out at the strip for decades and the title has changed hands numerous times. The NHRA, which is America’s sanctioning body for drag racing, confirms that drag racing is an all-American pass-time and that the Americans do it best.

However, imports and exotics might have something to say about that. The Wheels Plus YouTube channel aims to find out with their latest video. They pit the best vehicles from countries around the world against their American counterparts in a battle to claim the fastest time at the Bandimere Speedway drag strip in Morrison, CO.

The Nissan GTR’s Time Warp Speed

Our first race sees a Dodge Challenger Hellcat against a more expensive import car, the Nissan GTR R35. After successfully completing their burnouts, the two pull up to the tree and wait for the green. The tree lights green at the 16-second mark and unsurprisingly the GTR gets off the line quicker. There is a lot of slipping and sliding from the Challenger who is trying to gain any type of grip. This sees the first loss for the Americans with the GTR crossing the line at 11.34 seconds at 126.80 mph while the Challenger crosses over a second later at 12.88 seconds and 107.43 mph.

A second race, at the 1:10 mark, shows different cars and different drivers but the same model Challenger Hellcat and Nissan GTR. The results again confirm a win for the GTR by over a second.

The German Engineering

At the 35-second mark, we get a glimpse into the German competition. The BMW M3 pulls up next to a red S550 Ford Mustang GT. The two take off at the green light and race full out towards the finish line. The two seem to be side by side the entire race but the results show a win for the Bimmer with 11.48 seconds at 124.57 mph and the Mustang crossing at 12.10 seconds at 116 mph.

A second German race comes up around the 3:25 mark. The Shelby Mustang GT500 has better chances than the GT with its advantage in power, but it’s put up against a Porsche 911 Turbo. The Shelby starts right on time once the light appears but still sees a loss with a time of 11.89 seconds at 122.88 mph while the Porsche gets 11.07 seconds at 127.81 mph.

A Little Bit Of Hope

The only race that the Americans seem to win pits a Challenger Hellcat versus an extremely modified 5th generation Honda Civic. The Challenger roars past the finish line with an impressive time of 11.39 seconds at 121.99 mph while the Civic gets a time of 12.17 seconds at 108.24 mph.

Although we see a lot of losses for the American team, we can be proud of the American muscle cars throughout the entire video. The difference between the fastest car representing the rest of the world and the American car only has a 0.05-second difference. That’s quite literally less than the blink of an eye especially when you consider the price difference between these vehicles.
