It’s the most wonderful time of the year for Disney+ subscribers. This year’s Disney+ Day celebration brings a host of new programming, including Tom Hanks’ live-action Pinocchio film, a new series about the friendly automobiles of Pixar’s Cars, and the streaming premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder.
Elsewhere in the streaming verse, Matthew Fox heads Peacock’s new limited series Last Light, The Good Fight begins its final season on Paramount+, the producers of Broad City and Difficult People bring Wedding Season to Hulu, and more. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy on TV this Thursday:
Pinocchio: original movie. Tom Hanks stars as Gepetto, the wood carver who builds and treats puppet Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as if he were his own son, in Robert Zemeckis’ live-action retelling of the classic tale. Also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cynthia Erivo, Keegan-Michael Key, Lorraine Bracco, and Luke Evans. Watch trailer. Streaming on Disney+
Cars on the Road: Complete first season. Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) and his best friend Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) head east from Radiator Springs on a cross-country road trip to meet up with Mater’s sister. Watch trailer. Streaming on Disney+
Thor: Love and Thunder: Streaming premiere. When a galactic killer (Christian Bale) seeks to exterminate the gods, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Growing Up: Complete first season. Created by Brie Larson, this hybrid docuseries explores the challenges, triumphs, and complexities of adolescence through 10 compelling coming of age stories. Epic Adventures With Bertie Gregory: Complete first season . 29-year-old National Geographic Explorer Bertie Gregory takes viewers on epic journeys that push into the most spectacular corners of the world, from Antarctica to the lion dens of Zambia. Watch trailer. Streaming on Disney+
Dancing With the Stars: The Pros’ Most Memorable Dances: Special presentation. Ahead of the Season 31 premiere on September 19, Derek Hough, Kym Johnson, Cheryl Burke, and Brandon Armstrong reflect on the 20 most memorable dances of 30 seasons of DWTS. Streaming on Disney+
Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return: Special presentation. Disney blends never-before-seen moments, behind-the-scenes footage, and colorful personal stories in this new look at the making of Lucasfilm’s original limited series, which saw the return of classic Star Wars characters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Wade, Threats to voting rights, and the return of Cold War aggressions. Season 6 marks the final season of the long-running legal drama, with episodes dropping every Thursday through early November. Wedding Season: Complete first season. Two months after Katie (Rosa Salazar) and Stefan (Gavin Drea) begin an affair, Katie’s new husband and his entire family are murdered at their wedding.
