Tesla drivers reported they were stranded for hours on Friday when they were unable to unlock their cars with their phones due to a failure of the company’s mobile app.
The drivers complained to Twitter about an error message that meant they could not open or start their electric vehicles.
There were 42 reports a little after 9 p.m. GMT according to the outage tracking site DownDetector. Around 500 users reported a bug in the app, reports the BBC.
One owner wrote on Twitter: “I spend an hour away from home because I usually use my phone to start the car.”
Should go back online now. Apparently we accidentally increased the verbosity of the network traffic.

Another said, “I have a 500 server error connecting my @tesla. Model 3 in my iOS app in Seoul, South Korea. Seems to be a worldwide problem. @elonmusk. “
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is a fan of the social media site, responded directly that he was “checking” the issue and later came back to announce it was “now back online.”
“Sorry, we’re going to take steps to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” added the multibillionaire.
