Smart chargers for electric cars could save money – and the planet | Messages

According to a study, electric car drivers could save at least £ 110 a year by using smart technologies to automatically charge at the most convenient time.

According to the study, opting for smart charging could also reduce the carbon footprint of the electricity they consume by a fifth.

Smart Charging enables drivers to benefit from lower prices when there is high electricity from renewable energies from wind and solar parks and when there is little demand. The chargers use a data connection to “communicate” with cars about the best time to plug them in.

The trial was part of the state-funded “Flexible Responsive Energy Delivery” project, which aims to show how flexible charging processes can help prevent the grid from being overloaded by millions at peak times
