With endless budgets, historical locations and stunning clothes, royal weddings are nothing like the ordinary citizen wedding – and their gift lists are unconventional too.

While many brides and grooms compose a gift list of desired items or politely ask for donations for their honeymoon, modern royals do nothing of the sort. Instead, they send their guests a list of charities they want to support and encourage them to donate instead of giving them to the newlyweds.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge supports 26 different charities with their wedding list. A statement from Clarence House said: “After being touched by the goodwill they have shown since their engagement was announced, Prince William and Miss Middleton asked that anyone who wants to give them a wedding gift consider donating it to a charity instead.
“Many of the charities are little known, have no royal patronage, and do excellent work within certain communities. They are charities that have a special resonance with Prince William and Miss Middleton and reflect issues that the couple has been particularly interested in in their lives.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex They decided to support seven different charities when they tied the knot in 2018. The various organizations included the Myna Mahila Foundation, the Children’s HIV Association (CHIVA), Scotty’s Little Soldiers, Street Games, Crisis, Surfers Against Sewage, and the Wilderness Foundation.

Before starting a charity donation list, Prince Charles and Princess Diana had a more traditional wedding schedule. It is believed they had a humble list from the London boutique General Trading Company for their friends and family.

While Her Majesty the Queen did not have a wedding gift list for their wedding in 1947, which did not stop the flow of gifts. Over 2,500 gifts were sent to the royal couple and later displayed for the public.
Although many modern-day royal couples seek donations for charity, they still receive real gifts to mark their wedding status. Impressive tokens include PETA animals named after them, antique furniture, jewelry, cars, and even houses!
