The drunk Renfrew man snaps the license plate on the car and verbally abuses his pregnant friend at the family wedding

A Renfrew man who had to be banned from a family wedding because of his drunken aggressive demeanor was fined.

Jamie McKeeve, 32, admitted he was so drunk he ripped the license plate off his partner’s car – and broke it into pieces after giving her a bite.

Prosecutor’s Tax Officer Caitlin O’Hare told the Paisley Sheriff Court: “On October 4, the defendant and the applicant were at a wedding at the Busby Hotel.

“At around 9 p.m., the defendant announced that he wanted to go home.

“At that point, he was extremely drunk.

“The applicant, Ms. Williams, was sober because she is pregnant with his child.

“She drove the couple to the wedding that day.

“At around 10 p.m., Ms. Williams was stopped by a staff member and asked if McKeeve was her boyfriend when he yelled and damaged a car in the parking lot.

“Ms. Williams saw McKeeve next to the car and watched the license plate break and lay pieces on the floor.

“McKeeve saw Williams and shouted, ‘Get in the damn car, you fat thing’, ‘Don’t contact me, you won’t get anything from me, you will be yours”.’

“Ms. Williams went back to the hotel and the staff locked the doors.

“The defendant went to another door, asked for keys to the car and ordered a taxi a short time later.

“The police arrived at 11:45 pm and he was arrested and taken to the Govan Police Station.”

Defense agent Ms. Galbraith stated that McKeeve normally lives with the applicant.

She said: “McKeeve is currently living with his mother on bail but normally lives with the applicant.

“The couple have been in a relationship for three years and otherwise things are going well.

“The couple was at a family wedding and he had been drinking alcohol.

“Usually he doesn’t drink, he felt uncomfortable and wanted to go home.

“His partner is heavily pregnant and should be born in two weeks.

“This is an isolated incident and he apologizes many times.

“He paid for the vehicle to be repaired the very next day.

“He understands that he was completely out of order and is ashamed of the way he talked to his partner.

“She wishes the relationship continued.”

Sheriff Gillian Craig said, “It must have been alarming to everyone involved.”

Sheriff Craig fined McKeeve £ 420 for a payment of £ 40 a week and issued a no-harassment order for a period of 12 months.
