Rolls-Royce presents its first electric vehicle, the Specter

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced that road testing of its first all-electric automobile is imminent. The company decided on an entirely new name for this car, Specter.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said: “Today is the most important day in the history of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars since May 4, 1904. On this day our founding fathers Charles Rolls and Sir Henry Royce, met for the first time and agreed that they would build the “best car in the world”.

“Today, 117 years later, I am proud to announce that Rolls-Royce will begin testing an extraordinary new product on the road that will fuel the global all-electric car revolution and deliver the first – and best – super Luxury product of its kind. This is not a prototype. It’s real, it’s being tested in public and our customers will make the first deliveries of the car in the fourth quarter of 2023. “

A prophecy has come true

He added that they have been experimenting with an electric powertrain for some time. In 2011 we introduced 102EX, a fully functional all-electric phantom. We followed suit in 2016 with our fully electric 103EX, which embodied our vision for the brand several decades into the future. “

“The Charles Rolls prophecy and my promise brought us to a landmark moment for the brand. Rolls-Royce embarked on a historic and unique endeavor that is becoming a reality today. Our designers and engineers have worked tirelessly to get us here: we are now ready to begin road testing the first all-electric Rolls-Royce in history. “

In 2017, we introduced Phantom, the brand’s proprietary aluminum architecture: a scalable and flexible spaceframe that would underpin all upcoming Rolls-Royce automobiles. This unique technology – developed by Rolls-Royce for Rolls-Royce and reserved exclusively for the brand – was created not only to create different combustion engine models, as is now the case with Cullinan and Ghost, but models with completely different drive trains.

The CEO stated that Specter is a name for otherworldly beings that represents great power and appearance; Creatures of an alternate realm that make themselves felt through fleeting manifestations. “A ghost forces the world to pause. It dominates the space it occupies. Then, as quickly as it pops up, it dissolves, leaving a trail of serenity, energy and intrigue, ”he added.

“This name fits perfectly with the extraordinary Rolls-Royce that we are announcing today – an automobile that makes itself felt before it disappears into a world that is inaccessible to all but a few. As a typically British brand, we have chosen the British spelling, but the meaning is universal.

With this product, the company wants to set the conditions for the complete electrification of the entire product portfolio by 2030. Until then, Rolls-Royce will no longer manufacture or sell any products for internal combustion engines.

“Specter is the living fulfillment of Charles Rolls’ prophecy. My promise on behalf of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will be kept. Now we are embarking on a remarkable undertaking. I am proud that we will continue to lead the most progressive and influential women and men in the world into a bright, electrified future, ”concluded Müller-Ötvös.
