Uber has signed a deal with Tesla to provide London motorists with electric vehicles (EVs) as the city pushes to cut emissions.
The agreement, which goes into effect today, provides drivers with access to a £ 135 million clean air fund to help buy or lease a Tesla car.
The funds were raised through Uber’s move to add a 15p per mile fee for clean air in London as of January 2019, and means that the cost of switching to cleaner vehicles will be subsidized by around £ 3,500 to £ 4,000 per driver.
However, drivers also have the option of purchasing electric vehicles from other automakers such as Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia.
It’s part of the ride-hailing giant’s promise to electrify its entire London fleet by 2025.
Since March, passengers in central London have also been offered the option of using fully-fledged electric vehicles for their journey.
