Lauren Pamma, program director at the Green Finance Institute, the Coalition for the Decarbonization of Road Transport released her earlier this month current report “Road to Zero: Freeing Public and Private Capital to Decarbonise Road Traffic” said “other incentives” are necessary for second-hand owners. She said more needs to be done to convert potential owners to switch as soon as electric cars “hit the used market” again.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, she said: “Where we are a bit behind and perhaps more incentives are needed here are used vehicles.
“There is still no real supply of used vehicles because they have not yet been available in large quantities as new goods.
“It is true that our incentives have focused on new cars to try and build a market.
“But if these cars leak into the used car market, we may need to see other incentives there to give used buyers the confidence to switch.

However, used owners only get access to lower tax rates and exemptions for the Clean Air Zone.
Data from the SMMT showed that the sale of used cars fell by around 2.1 percent compared to the previous year.
However, sales of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric models rose by around 27 percent, which shows that used models are now also entering the market.
Mike Hawes, chief executive of SMMT, previously said it was “encouraging” that more used car buyers are buying used cars.
