A sprinkle of Disney magic on their wedding day for best friends Heather and Kevin

WHEN Kevin Kerr met Heather Howard in a town center bar, he offered to buy her a drink and the rest is history.

The drink he bought may have been on the house but it was the first step on the couple’s journey to a Disney-themed rustic wedding day, which was magical from start to finish.

Here Kevin, who is 36, and 34-year-old Heather, who both live in West Park, St Helens, tell us their wedding story, in their own words.

When and how did you meet?

Heather: We met on a night out in St Helens. I was out with my friends and Kev had just finished tiling the floor of the new Imperial Bar and Terrace. He offered to buy me a vodka and lemonade, which it turned out he was getting for free!

What did you think of each other when you first met?

Heather: We added each other on social media and went on a date but it didn’t come to anything. Then a few months later Kev messaged me and we got talking again. One year after we met he asked me to be his girlfriend.

Where and when did you get engaged?

May 29, 2021

How did one of you propose?

Mike: We were on a family day out at Blackpool Sandcastle with our three children and we hired our favorite VIP tiki cabana suite for the day. I got down on one knee by the hot tub and all the children were in on the surprise.

Mike: The ceremony was held at St Julie’s Church in Eccleston and then we went to The Hayloft in Widnes.

How were you feeling on the morning of your wedding?

Heather: I was surprisingly calm as I’m usually stressing. Then the wedding cars turned up and I was still getting my hair done, so I started to get very nervous!

How would you describe your wedding?

Heather: It really was the most magical day. We had a Disney-themed wedding with an animal show, magic photo mirror and ice creams as well as smoke bombs, a candy cart, arcade games and a wedding singer. If I could do it all again, I would in a heartbeat.

How many guests did you have?

Mike: We had 75 day guests and 150 evening guests.

What did your guests eat?

Mike: They had a three course meal for the wedding breakfast – potato and leek soup, chicken roast dinner and chocolate fudge cake. Then the evening guests arrived to an ice cream entrée, an evening buffet of pizzas, wedges, goujons, sandwiches, chips and wedding cake.

Did you have a first dance?

Mike: We danced to Redbone ‘Come and Get Your Love’. It’s from our favorite film Guardians of the Galaxy.

Did you have speeches?

Heather: We did the speeches before the meal as Kev was really nervous, but he absolutely smashed it! I was so proud and then my dad gave a toast, followed by my maid of honor and then the best man.

What are your favorite memories of the day?

Heather: My favorite memory was everyone dancing along to some old school club classics and then it turned into a dance off with us all in a circle cheering everyone on. My bridesmaid even did the worm in her dress!

Tell us a little bit about your outfits on the day?

Heather: I went to three different bridal shops with my bridesmaids to choose a dress and ended up picking the very first one that I tried on. I went back another day with my mum to confirm it was the right choice and she gave it the thumbs up. The bridesmaids all wore peach – my favorite color is pink and Kev’s is orange so that was a mixture of the two. The groomsmen wore navy blue with peach ties and we had a rustic, Disney theme so we had lovely neutral dried flower bouquets and button holes.

Are you going on honeymoon?

Heather: We are going to Disney World Florida of course for our honeymoon in the summer with our children.

Why did you want to get married?

Heather: Kev is like my best friend. We both love eating out as we’re big foodies, and we are family oriented so love holidays and days out. We love spending time together. I always said that I never wanted to get married but there was something different with Kev. He is such a kind hearted, genuine guy.
