The incident occurred on Friday during a wedding in Uttar Pradesh, India.
When the groom Anand Tripathi, who was riding the animal, was greeted, firecrackers burst.
As soon as the elephant hired for the celebration heard the sound, it became restless.
Sarai Inayat police damaged the animal at the venue and knocked over six cars during the rampage, reports the Times of India.
Police added that no one was injured in the incident.
