A wedding series – The Hindu

A court marriage, followed by an “official” marriage and a religious marriage

It was December 4th, 2018 when I got the first message from him. He was the only accepted profile among many others that we received. I was in the office and immediately logged into the marriage app to check the profile as I vaguely remembered his details. The profile at least convinced me to have a conversation. He’s in the army and I have a lot of respect for soldiers. My father was one of them.

We asked to get married and I dreamed of the wedding moments.

We got engaged on June 23, 2019 and I wasn’t ready to wait long to get married and live together. Soon we received the information from the family that our wedding date has been fixed and will be on December 1st, 2019. My fiance thought about the place where we can stay together. Since he serves in the army and was transferred to the town where I worked, we thought of a legal marriage that would give us the marriage certificate for applying for housing to live together. I have to say there was a lot of travel and paperwork. Fortunately, everything went smoothly and we officially got married on September 5th, 2019.

A few months later we received an invitation to an army event. I was a little worried as it was my first incident after becoming the wife of an army officer. Several thoughts went through my head. However, my husband suggested that I always believe in Carpe Diem. There was a get-together on October 11, 2019. I could see that there was a long line of cars in front of the hall. The venue was beautifully decorated. My husband introduced me to most of the guests there, which made me feel comfortable and my heart rate slowed down. His superiors learned that we had just finished a court marriage, but they weren’t happy about it. They immediately decided to marry us army fashion. I was stunned when my husband told me about it. Soon the news spread and people happily danced with me and congratulated me. The priest was called, there were garlands of flowers, aarti plates, and I was offered a beautiful dupatta. We were called near the stage and everyone surrounded us when the pundit started performing the rituals. We were blessed by everyone there, the flowers were showered on us. In fact, it was a wedding with incredible people. My heart smiled all day. I marked it as an army wedding.

And then it was time for the Seven Promise Wedding. My family thought I didn’t feel like getting married a third time; However, I made all the preparations and was full of energy to create memories for life. We got married on December 1, 2019 with the blessing of our family Konkani style. During seven rounds we promised each other strength, prosperity, family, offspring, health, food and nourishment. I marked it as a ritual wedding.

A girl who was contemplating a dream wedding was blessed to see it three times. This made me believe I was letting life go at its own pace, energy and wonder. You will get the best at any cost and at any time.
