Murray can’t wear his wedding ring in the square so he always ties it to his shoelaces for safekeeping, but on that occasion seems to have forgotten he was there. The former number 1 in the world has requested the safe return of his ring.

Murray shared his grief story in an Instagram video: “Last night after dinner in Indian Wells, I got back in the car to go back to the hotel and the car didn’t smell good.

“I left my tennis shoes in and it was 38 ° C, so my shoes were very sweaty, damp and smelly.

“When I got back to the hotel, I decided that the shoes needed some air to dry them a little. I don’t have a balcony in my room and I didn’t want to leave them in my room as it would stink the room.

“So I thought I’d leave the shoes under the car to get some air and dry them overnight. When I got back to the car in the morning, my shoes were gone.

“My tennis shoes for the tournament were stolen, so I had to go to a local pro shop to buy a variety of shoes. Not the end of the world, but not ideal.

‘As I was preparing for my practice, my physical therapist said to me, “Where’s your wedding ring?” And I was like “oh no”.

“When I play, I tie my wedding ring to my shoes because I can’t play with it on my hand. So my wedding ring was stolen too, so of course I’m at home in the bad books, so I want to try to find it.

“So if someone can share this or have any idea where they are, it would be very helpful if I could get it back or get to the bottom of them.”

In the caption, Murray said, “Yeah, I know I’m an idiot, and in hindsight it seems like a terrible idea, but I need help. What’s the reward for getting it back? ‘

He then followed with the hashtags #ring #shoes #idiot #help #clown.

After his marriage to Kim Sears in April 2015, Murray came up with a novel way to keep his ring safe.

At his first tournament after his wedding, the BMW Open in Munich, Murray attached the ring to the laces of his Adidas sneakers.

They served as a good luck charm for him when he won the tournament and he said at the time, “I won’t lose it if it is tied on my shoelace. As soon as the game is over, I’ll put it back on. If I had kept it in my pocket, I would have lost it. ‘
