Planning your big day is no easy task – from choosing the perfect wedding dress to organizing the seating arrangements, there are so many things to think about.
But one thing that you and your partner may spend a lot of time thinking about is which song you choose for your first dance. While some couples instantly agree, others may have to compromise if they choose the right path.
However, a new study shows that your wedding song contains a lot more than you might think.
According to a survey by OnBuy, there are a number of popular tunes that end in happy lives – and some that don’t. The aim was to find out whether there was a connection between divorce rates and first dance songs.
They asked 5,544 people around the world which melody they had chosen and what their current marital status was. They then rated the 25 best dance songs and calculated the counterpart to marital status.
The data found that the most popular first dance song is a unsurprising selection. 10.48% of the vote goes to Elvis Presley.
The secret song for a happy marriage was also revealed to be Can You Feel The Love Tonight by Elton John, with 77% of those who chose staying in their marriage. It also seems like having a Disney track as your first dance where over 70% are still together makes you more likely to stay married.
However, if you want to avoid breaking up, playing Little Things by One Direction isn’t important as 75% of respondents ended up breaking up. Oh man.
