Cheshire couple share journey to ‘perfect’ wedding day

WHEN Imogen and Liam got married they lit up Peckforton Castle fulfilling the bride’s childhood dreams of having a fairytale wedding.

The new Mr and Mrs Marshall, who live in Barnton, said “I do” on Thursday, March 31, in front of 80 guests and partied into the night with 70 more for the evening reception.

The party was in full swing as the sun went down and the groom decided to bare all for a photo outside the castle!

Imogen, who is 28, and 30-year-old Liam Marshall tell us, in their own words, about their special day.

When and how did you meet?

We met on an online dating website in October 2014.

What did you think of each other when you first met?

Imogen: I nearly didn’t turn up on the first date and almost chickened out but I’m so glad I didn’t. I thought Liam was funny and enjoyed spending time with him. Liam liked the look of me and had to speak to me!

Where and when did you get engaged?

Imogen: We got engaged in the Dominican Republic on October 22, 2018. We had arrived and checked in, tired after a long flight and an early morning get up. We grabbed a shower, threw on some clothes and were going to nip for some tea before going to bed. I was spraying bug spray on my legs, turned around and Liam was on one knee asking me to marry him.

How were you feeling on the morning of your wedding?

Imogen: We were both very relaxed and chilled and excited to see each other, which is quite the opposite to what I thought. I thought I would be a bridezilla!

How would you describe your wedding?

Imogen: It was the most amazing day of our lives. We waited so long for such a special day. It all came together and couldn’t have been more perfect. We had amazing guests and suppliers.

Liam: I’ve never had a day before that was perfect in every single way but that was true for our wedding day.

How many guests did you have?

80 days guests and 150 at night.

What did your guests eat?

Imogen: The wedding breakfast was roasted tomato soup with pesto, then feather blade of beef, and then chocolate brownie. We had an ice cream cart and a wedding cake made of cheese. In the evening we had sausage and bacon sandwiches and potato wedges.

Did you have a first dance?

The Whole of the Moon by The Waterboys.

Did you have speeches?

Imogen: We had three speeches. Liam’s was lovely with no huge shocks and it was very emotional. The father of bride speech was beautiful, emotional and had some funny parts. With the best man’s speech, we were expecting some shocking stories but luckily he’d only had three beers so it was funny and everyone enjoyed it.

What are your favorite memories of the day?

Imogen: The ceremony and seeing Liam cry when I walked down the aisle.

Liam: Seeing Imogen walk down the aisle, the speeches and getting naked in front of the castle for a photo at the end of the night!

Tell us a little bit about your outfits on the day?

Imogen: I found my dress at Gwen’s Bridal in Northwich back in 2019. It was the only shop I went to. I tried on two or three dresses but I knew this one was the one, with a few additions to be made. Gwen made a custom veil which was two times cathedral length.

The color scheme was bright, multicolored florals and pom poms with the bridesmaid and groomsmen in navy.

Did you go on honeymoon?

Liam: We’re going to Orlando for three weeks in October and we can’t wait! It’s a honeymoon and holiday of a lifetime.

Why did you want to get married?

Imogen: I have always wanted to get married since I was a little girl and we both said from the first year of being together that we would eventually get married so we did. We love each other’s quirks and that’s what makes us us.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us about your day or your relationship?

Imogen: We are so grateful to all our friends and family for joining us and celebrating our very special day. We couldn’t have done it without them. We wanted a unique wedding and we felt the color scheme and décor achieved that perfectly.
