According to Fox News, Reuss went on to call the second car an “incredible performance car,” but he did not refer to it as a Corvette. Including rumors of a supercar version of the C8 that could have over 1,000 horsepower, it all amounts to some bold claims from the American automaker.
The current Corvette C8 tops out at over $150,000 in Z06 form with the most expensive options. That’s a lot of money for a Chevy, but you’ll pay far more for the top Porsche 911 Turbo S, and even more for one of Lamborghini or Ferrari’s exotics. This seems to be the realm that Reuss was hinting at, but will people really pay that much for a Chevrolet?
Also under GM’s stable, Cadillac will push into new territory with the $300,000 Celestiq, so perhaps GM’s overall strategy is to create ultra-aspirational vehicles for several of its brands.
