Laura Daly and Alex MacDonald tied the knot a year early on Saturday when they won Millbrook Lodge Hotel’s ‘Win Your Dream Day’ competition earlier this year.
The Belfast couple had planned to marry in 2023 after Alex proposed last year on Rosslare Strand. While he had hoped to whisk Laura away, lockdown meant a proposal closer to home. The location proved perfect. Laura said ‘We spent many family holidays there. It’s my favorite place in the world.’
Laura added ‘I couldn’t believe it when it was announced that we had won. We were shocked and excited. It was all a bit of a whirlwind and we had to get planning but it all came together.’
Gerty McCaugherty, General Manager said ‘We saw the competition as an opportunity to give something back to the community that supported us through challenging times during lock down restrictions. It created a bit of welcome excitement when we launched it at our Bridal Fair in January. Laura and Alex are such a lovely couple. We are delighted for them.’
The County Down hotel hosted a red carpet welcome, signature drinks on arrival, a five course dinner, evening refreshments and of course, prosecco to toast the newly weds! Food & Beverage Manager Fiona Davy even created a bespoke wedding cake for the happy couple.

The family run hotel is a popular wedding venue, with country gardens and feature Victorian gazebo making a beautiful backdrop for wedding photography. With over 40 years wedding experience, Millbrook Lodge called on the best local wedding suppliers to get involved.
Oliver’s Wedding Cars provided the wedding transport, Watson’s Wedding Suppliers Ballynahinch arranged the wedding décor, Songbird Deborah Bradley sang during the ceremony & arrival reception and Peony Bridal supported with a voucher towards Laura’s wedding dress.
Alex and Laura commented ‘Our wedding really was our dream day and went off without a hitch, nothing was too much trouble. We loved walking the gardens with the photographer- so many spots to stop and take some time on our own. We couldn’t recommend Millbrook Lodge enough to anyone.’
