Opening times: Monday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
When did you start your business and why?
We opened the store 12 years ago. The reason for this was that we thought it would be an addition to my pension when I retire. We thought it would be a nice business to work in this business and at the time there was no one in Oswestry who owned wedding cars. My wife had the idea to get into the wedding car business.
Why in this place?
We LIVE in Gobowen and wanted to work in the area. We get to Newtown, Wrexham, Whitchurch and other places so we cover quite a large area.
I really like having a shop in this area – it’s a really nice place to bargain and there are no two options. It’s nice to drive across the border into North Wales which is also a very picturesque place.
You meet nice people in the area and because the area is smaller than a city, for example, you get to know the customers well.
Tell us about your company
We SPECIALLY make wedding cars because if you want to provide prom and party services then cars need to be licensed with the local authority and that can get quite expensive and there is a lot behind it.
But we prefer to just do weddings.
Right now we have two Beaufords who are replicas of the American Duesenberg cars from the 1930s. They are soft top cars and the most popular here.
We also have a Mercedes limousine which is mostly used by bridesmaids and which can carry seven people so it’s a very practical car.
We also have a Bentley that people like.
We started out with a car, a Rolls Royce, but it didn’t go so well in the beginning. Something I learned from talking to others in the industry and at wedding parties was that the Rolls Royce was the wrong color, most people want white cars for weddings.
So I went out and bought the Bentley in white and a few others in the same color.
I started increasing the number of cars and then noticed people asking for cars that could carry six or seven passengers, so I got the sedan.
We picked up some of our business from the wedding parties before the lockdown, but most of our business comes online these days.
We offer our customers a good service and price the order differently depending on their wishes.
What’s your proudest moment
I would SAY when I added a fourth car to the business – then we started to establish ourselves more strongly.
The first few years were difficult, but all of those years were part of the learning and it has helped me over the years.
Any strange requests?
We were asked to take Santa Claus to a local garden center this year, which is unusual in our business.
