Details about Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds’ secret wedding come to light

The couple made their vows in front of a small group of close friends and family at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday.

Downing Street initially declined to comment on reports of the wedding, but on Sunday morning a spokesman said, “The Prime Minister and Ms. Symonds were married in a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral yesterday afternoon.

“The couple will celebrate their wedding with family and friends next summer.”

They are said to have sent save-the-date cards to family and friends for the celebration on July 30, 2022.

It is believed that Ms. Symonds will take her husband’s last name and will be known as Carrie Johnson.

They looked at each other in a picture exhibited by No. 10 of the couple in the Downing Street garden after the wedding.

Ms. Symonds wore a £ 2,870 lace Costarellos dress and a floral headband.

The Prime Minister wore a dark suit and a blue tie with a white flower in his buttonhole.

Another picture shared on Twitter by Braintree MP James Cleverly showed a less formal scene.

Ms. Symonds snuggles up to her new husband barefoot. Bales of hay can be seen in the background. Glasses and mugs of cocktails are balanced over it. There also seems to be a stream of color from tassels and lanterns for decoration.

According to reports, the small ceremony had been in the works for about six months.

The couple’s son, one-year-old Wilfred, attended the wedding, as did two official witnesses, according to Mail.

Rachel, Jo, and Leo of Mr. Johnson’s siblings are also believed to have attended along with his father, Stanley.

Vaccine Minister Nadhim Zahawi congratulated them on Sunday morning, but the timing of the wedding should not signal that the lockdown will not be eased on June 21.

He told him the timing suggests that a major wedding will happen after April 21.

He added, “On June 14th we will use the dates we got from step three on the 17th in every single step from step one, two and three and then of course step four.”

The couple announced their engagement – along with news that they were expecting their first child – in February last year.

It is Mr Johnson’s third marriage after divorcing his second wife, Marina Wheeler, in 2020.

He and wife Johnson have a son, Wilfred, who was born in April 2020.

The wedding ceremony at the Catholic Cathedral was conducted by Father Daniel Humphreys, who gave directions to the couple prior to marriage and baptized Wilfred last year, The Sun reported.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., the cathedral was suddenly evacuated by visitors and staff said it would be locked, the newspaper said.

Half an hour later a limousine drove the bride to the piazza in front of the main entrance to the west.

The ceremony signified that Mr Johnson was the first Prime Minister to marry in office since Lord Liverpool married Mary Chester in 1822.

England weddings are currently subject to strict coronavirus restrictions.

Ceremonies for up to 30 people are allowed in Covid-safe rooms.

Wedding receptions for up to 30 people in a Covid-safe venue or outdoors are also allowed.

Dancing is not recommended due to the increased risk of infection, with the exception of the couple’s traditional first dance.

Johnson’s father Stanley was spotted on Downing Street after the ceremony while guests and musicians left # 10 on Saturday night.

The wedding comes at the end of a difficult week for the Prime Minister, during which his former advisor Dominic Cummings branded him incapacitated.

The former assistant to the prime minister said Ms. Johnson was desperately trying to oust him from his role as Mr. Johnson’s right-hand man and trying to bring her own friends into key positions.

Mr Cummings also claimed that in February 2020, as the pandemic turned into a major global crisis, Mr Johnson “was distracted by the conclusion of his divorce, his girlfriend wanted to announce her pregnancy and engagement, as well as his finances”.

Cabinet Minister Therese Coffey congratulated the couple “on their marriage”.

The Minister for Children and Families Vicky Ford sent her congratulations and “great love to Wilf”, adding: “So many weddings have been delayed and disrupted by Covid. Life is always better with love. “

Northern Ireland’s First Minister Arlene Foster tweeted: “Congratulations to Boris Johnson & Carrie Symonds on your wedding.”

But former Labor frontbencher Jon Trickett said the wedding was “a great way to bury this week’s bad news,” adding to Mr Cummings’ testimony, the spread of India’s variant of coronavirus and the dispute over funding the Downing Street apartment.

Labor colleague Tonia Antoniazzi suggested that the “emergency marriage plan” was an attempt to “distract from the negative press” by Mr Cummings.

She added, “You know he won’t have a plan in Checkers because he won’t be PM next year …”
