Father loses wedding ring with his deceased wife before the diamond anniversary

One woman said she “couldn’t thank the staff enough” for finding her father’s lost wedding ring before his diamond wedding anniversary with his late wife.

On Tuesday, August 31, great-grandfather John Craven went shopping, drove diesel, and then went to a local car wash in St. Helens before returning home.

But when he was doing the dishes later, John, 77, noticed his wedding ring was missing and called his daughter Sharon George in a panic.

Sharon, 53, said the family was “devastated” that the ring was lost, not for its value, but for sentimental reasons as this month marked her father’s 60th wedding anniversary with her mother Margaret, who passed away in 2015.

Sharon told the ECHO that the family thought the ring was lost for good, but was surprised when they received a call about 45 minutes later.

She said, “I took care of my granddaughter and he called me and said I lost my wedding ring.

“He did the dishes and then called me and I said check on the bowl or see if it’s down in the sink.

“I said you were elsewhere and he said he went to B&M for bread, then to Tesco for diesel like he does every week, and then to the car wash. I said we’d call them all and see if it does. ” been delivered.

“He actually cried and shivered. He shivered.

“He said it wasn’t worth a lot of money, but I said it’s not about the money. It’s gold and it’s worth a little if it goes to the wrong people. Me I didn’t think we’d get it back and I think that upset him more. “

Sharon’s sister called B&M and Tesco while calling IMO Car Wash on Denton’s Green Lane.

The staff member she spoke to stated that due to the coronavirus, they don’t get in cars unless there is service inside, they “hate it when something like this happens” and would search the website.

About 45 minutes later, Sharon received a call to say the wedding ring had been found.

Sharon said: “As he drove away, my dad stopped to fix his wing mirror so we think it slipped.

“When I called him and said it was found, he said no no.

Sharon said her father had lost weight and the family hadn’t noticed that his wedding ring had gotten too big.

She said the gesture was even more important as this month marks her parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. John’s wife Margaret died just before Christmas in December 2015.

Sharon said: “He was devastated because we lost my mother six years ago and that’s one of the sentimental things he’s been keeping all along. I told them I can’t thank you enough.

“There are some real people out there.”

Sharon went to post a review on IMO Car Wash’s website but couldn’t figure out how to do it and instead posted to a local Facebook group via the friendly gesture.

The post says, “I want to thank the guys who worked in the car wash for finding my father’s wedding ring.

“It had slipped off his finger when he got out of the car, he only realized it was gone when he got home.

“They called immediately and they were looking for it. Sentimental, 60 years of marriage and mother not being with us anymore.

“So thank you again.”
