Floreat and City Beach residents find cars and boat ransacked, jewelery and medicine stolen

Western suburbs residents woke up to find their cars unlocked and thousands of dollars worth of jewelery stolen over the weekend.

Cars parked at homes on Launceston Avenue in City Beach were found open and rummaged through overnight on January 28-29.

A handbag, wallet and $6000 worth of jewellery, including a wedding ring, which was stolen from one address.

Two vehicles were broken into on the same City Beach street that night, but nothing appeared to be stolen.

Wembley Police Senior Sergeant Peter Gilmour said the vehicles were believed to be locked but there were no signs of damage.

“It is unknown how offenders got in,” he said.

A thief entered a home on Athlone Road in Floreat through an unlocked door overnight on January 29-30.

Police said a toolbox, knife set and medication were stolen from a boat at the address.

Vehicles parked at homes on Glengariff Drive and Moray Avenue in Floreat were also rummaged through but nothing appeared to be stolen.

Sen. Sgt Gilmour said police believed these incidents in City Beach and Floreat over several nights might be linked.

“There’s clear signs of disruptions in the vehicles … They (residents) are telling us they were locked,” he said.

“My message is double check, make sure vehicles are locked, remove all personal items and report any suspicious behavior.”
