Engineer Matt Saunders has returned to the Repco Supercars Championship after a year off.
Saunders has joined Matt Stone Racing to develop the # 34 Holden ZB Commodore driven by Jake Kostecki.
Saunders is effectively taking over from Chris Stuckey, who joined Team Sydney earlier this year after Tim Newton left.
Saunders takes the lead at NTI Townsville 500, Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight, Winton SuperSprint, Bunnings Trade Perth SuperNight, Repco Bathurst 1000 and Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 at the end of the season.
Stuckey will return for the Auckland SuperSprint.
Saunders joins the team after a year away from the Supercars paddock.
He joined Team 18 in 2019 but was among those who lost their job in mid-2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The engineer from Albury has been building boats ever since.
This weekend’s Merlin Darwin Triple Crown marks the first time Saunders has been on the track since the unfortunate Melbourne 400 last year.
