From Gotham to Isycoed – Jade and Liam arrived at their wedding reception in style

A MUTUAL love of cars attracted Jasmin and Liam Povey-Dunn to each other and, fresh from film sets like Suicide Squad and Batman, one Gotham Police Department vehicle made a special appearance as the couple tied the knot earlier this month.

Jasmin, who is 25 and 35-year-old Liam live in Bromborough and became Mr and Mrs Povey-Dunn on Saturday, May 14 after Liam proposed at a car show at Oulton Park in 2019.

Here is Jasmin and Liam’s story of their perfect day.

When and how did you meet?

Jasmin: We met in February 2018. Liam added me on Snapchat through a mutual friend in the car scene. He then came to where I work for some help with a product that we sell.

What did you think of each other when you first met?

Jasmin: At first, when we were only messaging, I thought he was a little too political but when I met him in person, we hit it off instantly. I knew I needed this person in my life as I felt so calm and grounded around him. He very quickly became my best friend too.

Liam: From the moment I met her, I knew she was different to most girls, but in a good way. She doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty and loves any excuse to work on her car. She would always come out with something silly or some sort of dad joke, which she still does, and as silly as they can sometimes be, it does make me laugh.

Where and when did you get engaged?

Liam: We got engaged on July 13, 2019 at Oulton Park during a car show, Tunerfest North.

How did one of you propose?

Jasmine: Liam dropped to one knee in front of my after I had finished cleaning it for the stand that day. I had been slightly suspicious something was happening as he kept disappearing with my brother, but I didn’t think much of it until he dropped to one knee. I did run and hide behind my car at first due to the shock but I then I came out.

What was the location of the wedding and reception?

Jasmine: We had a quaint ceremony with those we love at St Paul’s Parish Church, Isycoed. We then went to Holt Lodge for our wedding breakfast and reception.

How were you feeling on the morning of your wedding?

Jasmine: I felt incredibly nervous. The thought of being the center of attention for a whole day was daunting. My brother kept saying Liam was very nervous too which didn’t help. I remember feeling so anxious my head almost checked out. I seemed calm to the outside world but inside my mind was racing.

Liam: I felt I was okay as I just needed to remember what I had to take with me. Luckily Jas had done a list so I could remember it all. I had the usual wedding nerves in the morning but felt I was on top of it.

How would you describe your wedding?

Jasmine: It was unique and fun. We had my brother as a flower girl who brought all the sass you could ask for. We had a bouncy castle and an inflatable boxing ring for guests to have fun and let loose at the reception. When we arrived at Holt Lodge, we had the Gotham PD car escort us into the property. This isn’t a replica, it is the actual car used in films such as Suicide Squad and Batman. It came from Don’t Panic Event Hire and obviously had people talking. We definitely made an entrance! Everyone loved the photo opportunities with it too. The whole day was perfect for us and reflected on our personalities. Almost everything was made by me, Liam or my parents for the day, from the save the dates and invitations to the table décor, all signage, church décor, candle favors and boxes and even the cake and stand.

Liam: It was epic! I know everyone says their wedding day was the best day ever but ours was different. The vicar was the perfect match for us and he even said after the ceremony that it will be the one he remembers the most. It was fun, relaxed and personal to us. The majority of our guests told us that it was the best wedding they had ever been to as it was so relaxed and everyone mingled together no matter whose side of the family they came from.

How many guests did you have?

Liam: We had under 40 guests for the ceremony and wedding breakfast and just under 60 altogether for the reception.

What was on the menu?

Jasmin: Those who came to the ceremony were treated to a very tasty three course sit down meal that everyone kept complimenting. Later in the evening, we had a casual buffet with homemade cake as a dessert.

Did you have a first dance?

Jasmine: We did in the end. We had a father daughter dance as my dad requested it. We then followed it by dancing to Anchor by Skillet and we took months to decide what to have. We knew we wanted something no one else had had but also something out of the ordinary when it comes to first dance songs. This one was the perfect mix of slow and rocky for our day and is a band we listen to often.

How did the speeches go?

Jasmine: We only had one speech from Liam. It was a small one to thank those who had helped us and also to wish his dad and step-mum a happy anniversary as we now share their wedding date.

What are your favorite memories of the day?

Jasmine: Some of my favorite memories of the day are having loads of fun on the bouncy castle and the way we arrived Holt Lodge. What will also always stick with me is how many people loved my brother as the flower girl and the number of compliments we got about all the décor, the cake and the favors that we had spent years fine tuning and making – even the staff at the church and Holt Lodge were in awe. Guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been to. Being able to change into our jeans and joggers was fun too and the guests loved how casual it became.

Liam: The whole day was amazing. Watching Jasmin walk down the isle and finally being able to see her in her dress that she was so excited about. That’s one thing I want cherish. Another thing I loved was looking around the room at the wedding breakfast and seeing how much everyone was enjoying themselves and how much they liked the food. Everyone was having fun and enjoying themselves, dancing, laughing – not one person was unhappy.

Tell us a little bit about your outfits on the day

Jasmin: I only tried on about six dresses to find the right one for me. I went to a small independent boutique to try on a certain dress. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for me but we made the most of it and I tried on a few more. I never had the magic moment like you see on tv but as I stood there looking in the mirror, I had the realization that I was going to get married and I knew it was the right choice.

Did you go on honeymoon?

Liam: We went on honeymoon the Monday after the wedding. We started it off with two nights in Cardigan Castle in Wales and explored St Govan’s Chapel and Dobby’s grave at freshwater beach. Then we traveled up the coast to Aberdunant Hall Country Hotel. We then traveled to Anglesey for two nights in Cemaes.
