It’s time to go green! The federal government has announced a new pollution reduction plan that includes a ban on the sale of all gasoline-powered cars in Canada by 2035.
On Tuesday June 29, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra confirmed that the government is “accelerating its binding sales target of 100% zero-emission vehicles”.

This means that by 2035, all new cars and light trucks sold in Canada will be zero-emission vehicles. Even brand-new cars that run on petrol alone will no longer be available.
Government officials hope this will encourage Canadians to consider more environmentally friendly transportation alternatives – like electric cars – instead.
The new goal is to accelerate the Federal Government’s previous goal of 2040.
The announcement goes hand in hand with existing measures to help Canadians transition to greener cars, such as helping with upfront costs for zero-emission vehicles and investing in charging infrastructure.
“Only a courageous climate policy leads to bold results,” said Alghabra on Tuesday. “By taking actions aimed at accelerating the transition to 100 percent zero-emission vehicles, we will continue to build a cleaner and more resilient economy while creating good jobs and opportunities for all Canadians.”
Earlier this year, officials also announced the Canada Greener Homes initiative, which offers Canadians who make energy-saving improvements to their homes up to $ 5,000.
