Here’s Why The Ferrari SF90 Is One Of The Best Supercars Available

In its eventful history, Ferrari has arguably never delivered a vehicle that didn’t live up to the brand’s performance standards, and even though some models have been better than others, all of them command extremely steep prices – even the ‘entry-level’ ones. Yet, some take things even further, both in terms of pricing and performance, and that’s exactly the case with the 2022 Ferrari SF90.

Built to celebrate Scuderia Ferrari’s 90th anniversary, the SF90 is essentially Ferrari’s range-topping mass-production model, excluding its ultra-exclusive million-dollar Icona Series models like the Daytona SP3 or the Monza. So, what can you expect from a top-spec Ferrari that costs over $500,000?

Well the SF90 is an ultra-engineered machine capable of pummeling the likes of the McLaren 765LT and the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 in pretty much every aspect. With tons of hybrid-sourced power and seemingly perfect driving dynamics – not to mention its breathtaking looks, the 2022 Ferrari SF90 is, quite simply, one of the best supercars currently available.

The SF90 Is One Of The Most Powerful Ferrari’s Ever

At the core of the 2022 Ferrari SF90’s powertrain was a twin-turbocharged DOHC 4.0-liter V8 that delivered a maximum output of 769 horsepower. On its own, it’s the most powerful V8 Ferrari has ever made, but that’s not where the story ends. That’s because the SF90 also boasts three-electric motor allies – one located on the rear axle between the engine and the supercar’s new 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, while the remaining two sits on the front axle to grace the vehicle with all- wheel drive.

Combining all forces allows the SF90 to produce a whopping total of 986 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, and it’s capable of blasting from 0-60 mph in as little as 2.0 seconds in perfect conditions, with an average runtime of about 2.3 seconds . That makes it faster than the Lamborghini Sian FKP 37 – which takes 2.8 seconds to get from 0-60 mph, and also the McLaren 765LT – which gets the deed done in around 2.7 seconds. In simpler terms, the 2022 Ferrari SF90 is one of the quickest accelerating cars ever, and it’s no slouch at high speeds either, being able to run the standing quarter mile in under 10 seconds while on its way to a top speed of 211 mph.

Additionally, being the first-ever plug-in hybrid Ferrari means that the SF90 can also make use of its hybrid powertrain to provide a fully-electric Edrive mode, which allocates up to 15 miles of pure electric range. Better yet, when driven normally, the SF90 delivers an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 22 mpg combined, which is more than you can ask for in a 1000-hp supercar.

The AWD Ferrari SF90 Handles To Perfection

The SF90 is a first for Ferrari in several aspects, and one of them is the fact that it’s the first prancing pony to come with all-wheel-drive. Integrating 3 electric motors with an internal combustion engine allowed Ferrari to develop plenty of new tech, and one of the most enticing features of the SF90 is its new Electronic Slide Slip Control system. eSSC uses three different torque distribution methods that unlock optimal performance, starting with an Electric Traction Control system that regulates the amount of torque sent to each wheel to suit real-time driving conditions and handling needs.

Next up is a brake-by-wire control system that enhances braking torque while also providing optimal stopping power and recharging the battery at the same time. Lastly, the eSSC system also includes front axle torque vectoring to maximize cornering capabilities.

Furthermore, in terms of suspension, the standard setup for the 2022 SF90 comes in the form of front double wishbones with adaptive dampers, as well as rear independent multilink adaptive dampers. Ferrari also offers an extra-cost performance-oriented Asseto Fiorano package, which unlocks an upgraded Multimatick shock absorber suspension setup, a reduced weight of 21 kg, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. When you combine all this with the SF90’s perfectly precise and responsive steering, it becomes one of the best-handling vehicles ever manufactured, able to tear up any track with the utmost confidence and poise, responding seamlessly to every single driver input.

The 2022 Ferrari SF90 Looks Amazing

Leaving performance aside, the SF90 is undeniably gorgeous, taking many of Ferrari’s traditional styling cues to generate a timeless, elegant, and aggressive look. Available as a Stradale coupe or a Spider roadster, the SF90 presents a sleek front-end with slick C-shaped headlights integrated into its low-slung bumper, as well as an up-facing lower grille with an air scoop that travels beneath the bumper and up the hood for improved aerodynamics.

Down its flank, the Ferrari SF90 boasts carbon fiber side skirts and vertically-mounted side view mirrors placed in between its gorgeous flared fenders, with massive air intakes integrated into the rear quarter-panel. Lastly, from the rear, the SF90 displays its glorious V8 underneath a slick glass hatch, along with a bridged spoiler, dual-central exhaust outlets, and a gorgeous 2-way carbon fiber diffuser. Upgrading to the Asseto Fiorano spec includes additional cues such as a carbon fiber rear spoiler and a unique two-tone paint job.

All in all, the 2022 SF90 is hard to fault in any aspect, and the engineering wizardry Ferrari managed to pull off to deliver such a competent supercar is hard to conceive. It’s one of the best supercars we’ve ever seen, and the SF90 marks a truly bright future for Ferrari as a whole.
