Husband (20) dies hours before his wedding in an accident in Co Limerick

A man was killed in a car accident in Co Limerick just hours before his wedding.

The deceased, Myles “Miley” Harty, 20, of Askeaton, Co. Limerick, died when the car he was a passenger in pulled off the road at around 1am in Cragmore on the Askeaton to Rathkeale and hit you Post crashed road.

A teenager who Gardaí believed was driving the car was arrested at the scene on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act.

A third man in the back of the car – a silver Skoda hatchback – was rushed to Limerick University Hospital by ambulance, with Gardaí saying the injuries were “non-life threatening”.

Mr. Harty was due to marry Kate Quilligan on Saturday afternoon at St. Munchin’s Church in Limerick City.

Ms. Quiligan, of High Road, Thomondgate, was supported by hundreds of family and friends, including those who should have been celebrating the couple’s wedding as they mourned outside church.

A sound system played music and songs while many wept outside the church.

Dozens of blue heart-shaped balloons labeled “King For A Day” and “20” were released into the sky over the church grounds.

Myles Harty’s family and friends gather outside St. Munchin’s Church in Limerick City on Saturday afternoon.

Askeaton parish priest, Father Seán Ó Longaigh, said Mr. Harty was known in his rural community in western Limerick.

“It is very sad for the families. You’re moving from a wedding to a funeral now; our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Myles was a young person who grew up locally, he went to the local school, he had an awful lot of relationships in Askeaton. “
