It’s an exciting time at Tickford Racing as it plans to expand operations to four cars in 2022 and in preparation for the launch of Gen3 the following year.

An important part of this growth is the hiring of new employees, with the masterful organization looking for two new mechanics.

“The main reason I went this commercial route is because I wanted that motorsport experience and background,” said Matthew Roberts, Tickford Racing team manager.

“Of course we’re expanding to four cars again and it’s important to get experienced people.

“The number one is solely responsible for preparing the vehicle according to the specifications of the engineers in their set-up sheet,” he added.

“So the mechanic has to make sure that the setup is correct and that everything is reliable.

“There is a fair amount of responsibility and burden on number one – you have to give direction to number two, who should be the less experienced of the two.

“So they have to give number two and make sure they adhere to type guidelines and adhere to all protocols.”

As one of the leading supercars organizations, the team at Tickford has a lot to do.

In addition to maintaining and prepping its growing Ford Mustang fleet, there will be the added amount of work to prepare for the move to Gen3.

It promises to be a turning point for the sport and a unique opportunity for its members to be part of the creation of the new format.

“The excitement about the Gen3 comes on board, it’s always fun to explore new projects and build brand new chassis and cars.

“We’re going to have a number of changes throughout the sport.

“It really is a milestone in the industry in and of itself because [there are] lots of new and exciting projects on the way, lots of tests and different aspects of the car to learn.

“This is going to be pretty entertaining, I think.”

The key to successful applicants is the ability to not only learn and adapt in the workplace, but also to blend in with existing staff.

While the team is working hard, there is a positive spirit with high morals in the close ranks. It is important for Roberts to maintain that atmosphere.

“You just have to be fit and willing and able to learn our procedures and protocols and so on,” said Roberts of the successful candidate.

“There will be a learning curve, teams work differently.

“We all have one goal and at the moment a lot of people are pulling together, that’s important.

“There are no egos, you know, we all have a level playing field.

“We have good morals and good people to work with and good camaraderie.

“Everyone is pushing for the same goal: We want to win all the races and championships, but at the same time it’s important that the boys have fun on the road and enjoy the ride.”
