ER is about to tackle his final event as a full-time Supercars driver, but Jamie Whincup is as determined to have success at the Bathurst 1000 as ever.

On Tuesday, after Red Bull Air Race World Champion Matt Hall made a special landing on the Mountain Straight in honor of Whincup, the star driver spoke fierce words.

He will do everything in his power to celebrate the final with a Great Race win.

“Of course I feel like we have as good chances as always this weekend. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think we had a chance. So we’ll do what we can and just try to be there . ” at the end of the six and a half hours, “he said.

“When I made the decision, I wanted to make sure I had my climax and my most competitive performance, so of course I’m ready for a fight.

“I have to make sure I do a good job, have to make sure the car is fast and then of course we will fight, I will not hand it over to anyone.”

Fittingly, the driver who will share Whincup’s seat in the Red Bull Commodore # 88 at Mount Panorama will be Craig Lowndes, the same man who drove him a Bathurst three-pod between 2006 and 2008.

Although the 38-year-old had bad luck in his 19 starts on Mount, he has a total of four Bathurst wins to his name.

“We had a fast car here and were in the race a lot. Obviously this is the hardest race to win and the easiest to lose, and we’ve had little problems here, there and everywhere over the years. But we also had a few days, where it went right and we were able to stand on the top step four times, “he said.

“I’m not a greedy person, once would have been enough for me, so having four is a fantastic feeling.”

In the next season, Whincup will switch to the role of team owner and it remains to be seen whether he will be available as a co-driver for the Bathurst 1000.

But if the race is his last this Sunday, the man named JDub still leaves a remarkable legacy as a driver.

On the way to Bathurst, he won 124 races and enjoyed 237 podiums. He has won the championship seven times and has been on pole position 92 times.

“To be honest, I have no regrets, I make a decision with all the information I have in front of me. Of course everyone puts on their captain’s hat afterwards and changes their minds afterwards, but that’s not the point, “he said.

“I feel like it is time to look forward to my final event and I am looking forward to what I will call chapter three, which will be just as exciting as chapter two.

“The team, obviously I’m just overwhelmed by the effort you put into my last event, you make it very special for me. Win, lose or tie, I’ll try to enjoy it as much as I can possibly.”

Whincup begins its 20th Bathurst 1000 campaign on Thursday when the Supercars series hosts two hour-long training sessions. The first starts at 10 a.m.
