“Oh my god what happened?”
These were supposedly the last words Princess Diana ever said, according to a fire chief who was at the scene of her fatal car accident in Paris in 1997.

For the first time ever, Sgt.Xavier Gourmelon speaks to the media about what he saw and heard on that fateful evening, claiming Diana was in a utter state of confusion after the Mercedes she was driving in got into an underpass crashed while she was being chased by paparazzi.
Xavier, who previously only spoke to the police about that night, described the chilly evening in a chat with The Daily Mail. Diana, he said, “moved and talked” when he got to the scene.
“She spoke English and said, ‘Oh my god, what happened?’ I could understand that so I tried to calm her down. I was holding her hand, “he said.
Xavier said the king appeared dazed after the crash but seemed okay. At that time he didn’t know who he was helping. But after putting Diana in an ambulance, the local captain told the firefighter who he was treating.
“He tells me who she is and then, yes, I recognize her, but at the moment I don’t have it,” he said.

The first person on the scene, off duty doctor Frederic Mailliez, also said he didn’t know it was Diana when he got there. Diana, he said, was sitting “back on the floor” of the Mercedes.
“That’s when I discovered that she is a very beautiful woman and that she doesn’t have one [serious] Injuries to the face. She wasn’t bleeding [then] but she was almost passed out and had difficulty breathing, “he said.” She looked fine for the first few minutes. “
“So I started speaking to her in English and said that I was a doctor and that the ambulance was on the way and everything would be fine,” he recalls.
Diana would eventually succumb to the injuries she sustained in the accident.
